Gym, classes and fitness
We're dedicated to helping our members stay fit and well in whatever way suits them.
Our gym is a place where you can spend as much or as little time as you wish and get a great workout, with a range of equipment versatile enough to accommodate people of all abilities, ambitions, shapes and sizes.
The gym is open 6.00am - 10.00pm Monday - Friday, and 8.00am - 6.00pm Saturdays and Sundays.
We offer a range of memberships which give you access to our fitness facilities.
Alternatively, we also welcome day visitors - simply create your free Places membership before visiting.
Our current pay as you go prices are £8.90 for adults, £6.20 for concessions, over 65s and students, and £5.00 for juniors.
Gym support
To familiarise you with the gym and to get to know your goals we'd like to offer you a short group introduction to the gym. This can be booked with a member of the team when you join or at a later date via our website.
One-to-one support sessions can be booked with a member of the gym team. The sessions last 45 minutes and are chargeable.
You are also welcome to book one free 15 minute programme review a month, just speak to a member of our team.
Our gyms are not always manned, but rest assured support is never far away. Our equipment is labelled with QR codes, which when scanned, provide you a video tutorial. Also look out for our latest workout boards in the gym, with a scannable code showcasing the latest workout to try.

Gym etiquette
We want everyone's time in our gym to be as comfortable as possible, so we ask all visitors to remember the below when using the facilities.
- Please help us keep the gym clean by wiping down equipment after use
- Wear appropriate footwear for the activity you're doing
- Lifting barefoot or in socks is permitted on lifting platforms only
- Make use of our lockers for bags
- Our gym's aren't always manned, so if you require assistance or support when there are no team members on the gym floor, please visit our friendly reception team
- In case of emergency, push the assistance alarm
- A gym induction must be completed before using the gym
- 1 adult (18 years+) can attend with up to four Junior members and is responsible for the Junior member's conduct
- You must follow all exercise programme advice given by our Fitness team
- During busy times, please be mindful of the length of time you spend on each piece of equipment to allow other gym users to complete their workout

Classes at Romsey Rapids Sports Complex
We operate a range of fitness classes at our centre, both in and out of the pool. Take a look at some of the types of activities we've got for you:
Group cycling
Ride like the wind with our group cycling classes. You’ll feel like you’ve had a workout with one of these sessions.
Studio classes
Offering a range of intensities from gentle and relaxing to a more intensive workout, you’ll be able to find a class that suits you.
Aqua classes
Classes range from gentle to high impact so you can work hard and enjoy the support of the pool improving strength and fitness.
Les Mills classes
Les Mills classes are enjoyed all over the world and include Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Balance, Body Attack and Sh’bam.
Low impact classes
Our low intensity classes are just as important as our high energy offering... a wide range of classes including, Steady and Strong, Chair-based Yoga, Forever Active and Healthy Backs.

Health Suite
Take time to completely relax and unwind in our beautifully tranquil health suite, featuring a relaxing infrared sauna; a calming steam room; a traditional, skin-purifying sauna; and deeply soothing, heated seats.

Wellbeing Suite
The Wellbeing suite is specifically designed to help our members that live with chronic conditions such as MS, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis – as well as individuals recovering from serious illness, surgery or injury.
The studio has a variety of power-assisted machines, which support your body’s movement by working with you rather than against you. With the ability to increase or decrease the level of resistance or support, the toning tables offer a good full-body workout for those looking to get back into fitness.
Wellbeing suite
Designed to help members improve their overall fitness and wellbeing through low impact activity, the Wellbeing suite offers a variety of power-assisted machines. These machines can replace the need for traditional cardiovascular and weights-based exercises, by supporting you to:
- Improve your fitness and wellbeing
- Tone your muscles
- Strengthen your posture
- Provide better circulation
- Staying active can aid in disease prevention
- Increases athletic capacity

Not used the machines before? Don’t worry, our fantastic Wellbeing suite staff are always on hand to guide you through an induction and your exercise journey.

Gerry Francis
Qualifications: L3 Personal Trainer, Group exercise instructor, COVID-19 Recovery coach, Escape Pain Coach, FA qualified coach.
Gerry specializes in all thing's fitness from S&C to weight lifting to low impact mobility and Football coaching. His experience as a dedicated health professional, athlete and Personal Trainer makes Gerry extremely knowledgeable in the field of fitness.
Jessica Tugwell
Qualifications: L3 Personal Trainer, Online coach, S&C.
As a L3 Personal Trainer and coach Jess focuses on the strength and conditioning side of fitness. With experience working alongside athletes, her training specializes in stamina, endurance and strength training.
Eileen Munday
Qualifications: L3 PT, Health and Wellbeing Consultant, Escape Pain Coach, Steady And strong coach, Group Exercise instructor.
Eileen is a highly qualified health professional that specializes in mobility and low impact training for rehabilitation and recovery. Her experience with holistic training and mindfulness makes Eileen a trainer that adapts fitness not just as a health benefit but also great for your mental Health.

Corrie specializes in the training of athletes at a high level. His knowledge and expertise are extremely advanced based on his higher level of education at university.

David obtains various specialties as a Health and wellbeing consultant, his advanced knowledge based on exercise for health conditions helps not just with training the body for endurance and strength, but also for rehab and recovery.

Exercise referral scheme
If you have suffered an illness or recently had an operation our GP referral sessions will help you get back into fitness. You’ll need a ‘prescription to exercise’ from your doctor to get started and our instructors will support you through your sessions.

The aim of the programme is to improve participants’ health and wellbeing by encouraging them to move more, within a safe and comfortable environment. It targets people who suffer from, or are at risk of, developing chronic medical conditions and provides support to people whose health could benefit from a more active lifestyle.
What can I expect from the scheme?
A 3 month support plan designed to suit your ability, needs and goals, with continued help and support throughout. Our support scheme incorporates unlimited use of the gym, swimming sessions, low level group exercise classes including aqua fit. A qualified health and wellbeing consultant will be allocated to help you. Together, you will develop a personalised plan and regularly review your progress in order to:
- Help you achieve your best results
- Provide safe and effective ways to move
more & be active - Empower you to make positive changes
to your lifestyle - Advise, motivate and support you along

What support will we provide?

The Healthy Communities Programme comes at a discounted rate and offers great value for money. Please speak to a member of our team regarding the cost and further information.
How do I start?
Ask your healthcare professional or your charitable support service to complete the healthy communities exercise referral form and bring in to the centre. Our team will then contact you to start your journey to better health and wellbeing.

What are your responsibilities?
- Follow your plan as advised by our support team
- Advise a member of our team if your medication or circumstances change or if you have any questions or concerns
- Complete your 3 month plan the best you can

Qualifications: L4 Exercise referral, COVID Recovery coach, Cardiac Phase 4, Escape Pain
David is a highly qualified health professional that works as a consultant here at Romsey Rapids. He focuses on rehab and recovery for his clients applying his knowledge that he has developed over the years. His experience in the world of fitness and leisure supports his adeptness as a well-trained coach, trainer and consultant.
Junior fitness
We believe a physically active child is much more likely to become a physically active adult. We run supervised sessions for children aged 11-15 years to attend.
Junior fitness
All junior fitness sessions are supervised by a Level 3 Personal Trainer. Please see below the timetable:
Monday: 4.00pm – 5.00pm
Tuesday: 4.00pm – 5.00pm
Wednesday: 4.00pm – 5.00pm
Thursday: 4.00pm – 5.00pm
Friday: 4.00pm – 5.00pm
Saturday: 10.45am - 11.45am
Sunday: 10.45am – 11.45am
Please note an additional session Monday - Friday during the school holidays runs 10.00am - 11.00am.
Please book these sessions in advance online, through our app or at reception. There are 16 spaces available per session.

All junior gym users must complete a group introduction before using the gym independently. These sessions last 30 minutes and can be booked with a member of our team when joining.
Once a junior member has completed their introduction and received programme advice they can attend outside the above supervised sessions with a parent/guardian or appropriate adult (18+) on a ratio of a maximum four juniors per adult.
