Pool closure FAQ's

Deben Leisure Centre is closing from 6th April 2026 for refurbishment works, led by East Suffolk Council.

Please refer to this web page for any updates. We hope that your questions are answered on this page, but if you would like to speak to a member of the team, please contact us on 01394 388991 and we will get back in touch with you.

What is happening at Deben Leisure Centre?

We're upgrading the roof and installing new heating and energy systems to help make the building more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Will the leisure centre be closed during the works?

We aim to minimise disruption. The leisure centre will be open throughout all the works, however the pool and health suite will be closed from 6th April, with the aim to reopen in mid July 2026.

What are the environmental benefits of the upgrade?

The new systems will significantly reduce carbon emissions, helping East Suffolk Council move towards net zero, all plant equipment will be powered by electricity. Solar panels will generate clean energy, and the new heating system uses a low-impact refrigerant.

Will this affect my Premium membership?

Your Premium membership will remain valid, and Deben Leisure Centre will remain open throughout the works. During this time, only the pool and health suite will be unavailable.

As a reminder, you can continue to enjoy swimming at Leiston Leisure Centre and Felixstowe Leisure Centre while the pool is closed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the team.

What if I have a Swim membership or swimming lessons booked?

If you have a Swim only membership or swimming lessons at Deben Leisure Centre, our team will be in touch with you directly to discuss the closure period and the options available to you.

What are the solar panels for?

The solar panels will be installed on the roof and a new carport in the car park. They’ll help power the centre and reduce reliance on grid electricity.

Will the car park be affected?

A solar carport will be built therefore sections of parking bays will be fenced off and closed for approximately 5 weeks. This work will be delivered in phases to minimise disruption. Although exact dates are still to be confirmed, notice boards will provide at least two weeks’ advance warning of any area closures. The car park at the rear of Deben Leisure Centre will remain fully accessible throughout to ensure parking remains available.

How is this funded?

This project is being supported by a Government grant through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which helps public buildings become more energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions.

East Suffolk Council has also contributed towards the cost of decarbonising the centre.

What will the centre look like after the upgrade?

The centre will retain its familiar layout but benefit from a modern roof, improved heating, and clean energy systems. It will be more comfortable, efficient, and sustainable.

What other leisure centres in East Suffolk are affected?

Leiston Leisure Centre are also undergoing works for the decarbonisation schemes, however these works are in the plant room and installing solar panels, therefore, there will be no impact to members of the public during the implementation of the scheme.
