Time Together

Read our mother and daughter's stories below

We’re delighted to take part in Women in Sport’s #TimeTogether campaign again this year!

We’re inspiring teenage daughters and their mums, aunties, step-mums, or any other mum-like figures to get active, reconnect, and spend time together. This could be through going for a walk together, playing a sport they both enjoy, or even having a dance!

Many girls tend to rapidly disengage with physical activity during their teenage years, with research from Women in Sport showing that 1.3 million teenage girls who once considered themselves as ‘sporty’ drop out of exercise after primary school, and 61% of teenage girls say judgement from others stops them being active.

Despite mums/mum-like figures being their daughter’s biggest supporter when it comes to encouraging exercise, they often find it tricky to find time to exercise themselves among work and family commitments, making this campaign all the more vital for both groups.

It’s not just physical health that’s important here, it’s the bonding experience for daughters and mums/mum-like figures too. Having quality time together to chat, wind down, or have a laugh can be a powerful tool when it comes to nurturing connections between one another and strengthening family bonds.

Passing on positive relationships with exercise will help create a healthier, more active future for the next generation of girls. We want to say a big thank you to all the mum/daughter duos who shared their stories with us – you can read them below!

Let us know how you’re spending time together by tagging us and Women in Sport on social media with the hashtag #TimeTogether.
