Padel Court opens at Battersea Sports Centre

Padel is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, enthusiasts and beginners can now enjoy a new outdoor court at Battersea Sports Centre which opened on Monday 25 May. 

Places Leisure, an agent for Wandsworth Council, has re-introduced a new state-of-the-art padel court to the Battersea Sports Centre, designed to meet the growing demand for the sport.  

With over 95 weekly bookable slots, the court will ensure a premium experience for both beginners and experienced players. 

Since Places Leisure took over the operation of the centre there has been significant investment over the last eight months including an upgraded Fitness Suite, improved 3g Pitch, refurbished Dojo, sports hall and reception. Further improvements and investment are planned for the centre, the next being a new refreshed gym layout with brand-new equipment planned for Summer. 

Ed Lane, Contract Manager at Places Leisure, said: “We are thrilled that our new padel court is ready to welcome players of all abilities. Padel is an incredibly accessible sport, you don’t need to have played racket sports before, and you don’t need a high level of fitness to play. It’s also incredibly social, creating a welcoming space where friends can come together, meet new people, and simply have fun.  

“For us, these court are about more than sport, they are spaces where people can come together, build friendships and be part of something positive whilst staying active in an enjoyable way.” 

Padel, a fast-paced racket sport combining elements of tennis and squash, has seen a surge in popularity across the UK, with participation rates continuing to rise. The opening of this court reflects Places Leisure’s commitment to expanding access to the sport and promoting active, social lifestyles within the community. 

The court at Battersea Sports Centre will be open during the following hours: 
Monday to Friday – 7am – 10pm 
Saturday and Sunday – 9am - 5pm
