Congratulations Reece!

William Gregg VC Leisure Centre's swimmer of the year!

After a challenging 2021 we wanted to round the year off with some good news stories.  We asked all of our Swimming Teachers to nominate those distinctive, very special swimmers who deserved a bit of recognition.

They were asked to identify swimmers on our lesson programmes (children and adults) who have displayed positive attitudes, unyielding determination or, have put in efforts over and above their peers.  They may have overcome personal adversity or achieved something unexpected or challenging.

Reece Kitchen - William Gregg VC Leisure Centre swimmer of the year 2021!

Nominated by his teacher Kirsty Hardy

'I became Reece's regular 121 teacher when I took over from a previous teacher. In the past I did cover on a Wednesday and always caught Reece and his swimming out the corner of my eye and thought he is a good young swimmer especially having no fear of his disability and what could stop him or give him obstacles but he over comes these.

Now every week, I look forward to teaching this pupil, who now is nearly ready to start Stage 7 and wants to keep going through all his stages.

This young lad faces obstacles and really does try his best every week and overcome.

He loves coming to swimming and has been with the academy for many years and just keeps growing. Covid he had to shield but was great to see back when we opened our doors. He struggles with spinal issues, and cannot perform the butterfly stroke because of this. He is a lovely swimmer, personality that shines!'
