Why is Rotherham becoming a Children's Capital of Culture?

Children and young people of Rotherham created a plan to change the future of the town in order to make it a place for future generations to be proud to be a part of.

Their manifesto explained how they wanted individuals to be 'passionate about where they lived' and how their main goal is for Rotherham to become the world's first Children's Capital of Culture in 2025!

This plan has demonstrated Rotherham's dedication to empowering young people and emphasises how they have a voice in their town and the ability to bring about positive change.

Benefits of becoming a Children's Capital of Culture:

  • Showcase the creative opportunities within Rotherham that are often forgotten about
  • Change the reputation of Rotherham
  • Encourage people from different backgrounds to come together and create better relationships
  • More employment opportunities
  • Will help Rotherham stand out as a town
  • Encourage greater footfall into Rotherham

How will the Children's Capital of Culture be supported?

Other than the young people dedicated to changing their town for the better, the children's ambitions are also financially supported by several stakeholders, including the Government and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
