Closure FAQs

Find out more about the lido's closure this season

Unfortunately, Aldershot Lido will not be re-opening for the remainder of 2020.

Please find more information below.

Why is the Lido not re-opening?

The outdoor pool’s summer season usually runs from the end of May to the beginning of September and takes at least a month to get ready for opening. This includes servicing, cleaning, and filling the pool and its tank and chlorinating the water; preparing the site; and recruiting and training the seasonal staff, particularly the 30-plus lifeguards needed over the three months. With no agreed date from the Government on when pools can open and the operational requirements to get it ready when we do get approval, it is unfortunately not possible to open the lido this year. Read the full press release from Rushmoor Borough Council for more information.

Will the Lido open in 2021?

We hope so! Of course we have to be led by Government and whatever the situation is around Covid-19 at that time, but we have every expectation that the lido will be open next year.

If social distancing is a problem, why can’t you open just for a smaller number of people e.g. lane swimming?

Social distancing is a factor, but over and above that we don’t yet have Government approval to open swimming pools. Even if that comes soon, the lengthy operational requirements to open the lido mean that it is not possible to open for such a reduced season.

Will the leisure centre re-open?

Yes, we hope so! This remains dependent upon Government guidance and approval from our partners, Rushmoor Borough Council. We will continually update our plans as they develop and publish them on our website and social media pages.
