Our footwear policy
Keeping you safe in our centres
This policy is in place to protect the safety of members, staff, and any other visitors.
Appropriate footwear must be always worn when using the gym, studio, and group cycling areas. Footwear must cover the toes, be securely fastened around the foot and ankle. All footwear must be clean to maintain safety and hygiene.
Footwear must be worn when using all cardiovascular, functional, and fixed strength equipment. The footwear selected must be appropriate for the exercise being completed, e.g. crocs would not be suitable for Treadmill, but fine for a fixed strength Chest Press.
Flip flops are not permitted anywhere within the gym.
Footwear may be removed only when lifting, provided socks are worn. This is permitted only on lifting platforms, within racks on rubberised flooring, or in designated stretch areas. Exercising barefoot is not permitted due to hygiene reasons.
Members and staff choosing to wear cycling cleats for indoor cycling must not walk in them within the facility, as cleats increase the risk of slipping, may damage flooring, and are unsafe for walking.
Members participating in Health and Wellbeing programmes may need to wear slip-on footwear due to medical circumstance.
Footwear which covers toes and is secured around the foot/ankle must be worn during all studio and group cycling classes. The only exception is for holistic classes.
