Places Leisure is providing more opportunities to become active this National Fitness Day

See what we're getting up to!

To mark this year’s National Fitness Day and embracing its theme of “Powered by you!", Places Leisure, a social enterprise which operates and manages over 100 centres across the country, is offering five-day free passes at all its centres.

With a quarter of the population in England classed as inactive (averaging less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week), National Fitness Day presents an opportunity to get millions more people active and support the NHS by improving the nation’s health.

In support of National Fitness Day, with the hope of encouraging people to introduce fitness into their life either for the first time or to bring physical activity back into their routine, Places Leisure is offering free five-day membership passes to all of its leisure centres. It is also offering current members the opportunity to give a five-day free pass to a friend or family member.

A five-day free pass will give users access to the same benefits as a Places Leisure Premium membership which includes unlimited gym use, unlimited classes, unlimited pool use, access to the Places Leisure app, and free use of SWIMTAG (wearable technology to track your swim performance and stroke).

Belinda Steward, Managing Director of Places Leisure, said: “The importance of looking after health and wellbeing has never been clearer but often people don’t know where to start or how to improve. We are committed to creating more opportunities and to make fitness more accessible for everyone. Our goal is to create spaces where everyone feels welcome, supported and confident.

“That’s why this National Fitness Day we are encouraging people across the country to join us at our centres to discover what works for you and what makes you feel good by taking advantage of our free-five day passes which can be activated between 15-30 September 2025.  Our passes give people the opportunity to try the gym, swimming at selected centres, and a huge variety of group workout classes. Our friendly teams are looking forward to welcoming and supporting lots of new faces through our doors.”

Huw Edwards, CEO of ukactive, said: “As more people in the UK prioritise their physical and mental health, National Fitness Day is a moment to celebrate all the ways we can stay active to support our wellbeing and quality of life.

“Our theme, ‘Powered by you!’, demonstrates that anyone can get involved, whether you’re a returning gym-goer or just taking the first step on your fitness journey.”
