Why is Places Gym Hinckley closing?
We have taken the difficult decision to close Places Gym Hinckley on 1st December 2025. As a business, Places Leisure has developed in recent years along with our strategic business objectives. Taking this and some external factors into account, the business model which Places Gym Hinckley is based on no longer aligns with our overall business strategy.
Will all employees of Places Gym Hinckley transfer to other Places Leisure sites i.e. Hinckley Leisure Centre?
We are currently working through our options and will be supporting our Colleagues through any changes.
Are any investment works expected at Hinckley Leisure Centre?
We are currently in discussions with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council regarding a number of different development options for Hinckley Leisure Centre. More details will be shared once decisions have been finalised.
Are you closing Places Gym Hinckley to help fund refurbishment/investment work at Hinckley Leisure Centre?
No, any investment works to Hinckley Leisure Centre will be separate to our decision to close Places Gym Hinckley. Places Gym Hinckley is not tied to an agreement with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, it is owned by Places Leisure.
Why was I not informed about the closure?
We communicated via email to all members we hold an email address for. Please ensure that your account has an up-to-date email linked to it. If your email is correct, please check your junk folder.
Members who didn’t have an email address linked to their account were sent letters to the address linked to their membership.
If you feel you have received neither an email nor letter, please call us on 01455 610011 and we’ll be happy to help you to update your contact details.
Membership FAQs
I have a membership at Places Gym Hinckley, what will happen following the closure?
We are so pleased to have you as part of our Community and want to ensure you can continue your fitness journey with us. All memberships will be automatically transferred to Hinckley Leisure Centre, just a short walk from Places Gym Hinckley, on 1st December 2025 at no extra cost.
Hinckley Leisure Centre offers a variety of facilities including a gym, swimming pools and group workout classes, giving you even more opportunities to stay active!
If you hold a membership with us, we will contact you directly via email or letter.
If you visit us on a pay-as-you-go basis, you can continue to do so at Hinckley Leisure Centre.
I pay for a dual site membership and use both the gym and leisure centre, will my membership price be reduced?
If you hold a dual site membership, we will be contacting you directly regarding your options. Members will be able to use Places Gym Hinckley as normal until 1st December 2025.
Why have I been allowed to take out a membership if you knew the gym was closing?
Places Gym Hinckley is remaining open until 1st December 2025, until then members can use the gym as normal. We are still allowing members to join on a monthly membership, however, we have removed the option to take out an annual membership.
Will I be charged for cancelling my membership early, as I want to go to another gym?
We’d love to continue supporting you on your fitness journey. Hinckley Leisure Centre, just a short walk from Places Gym Hinckley, offers a range of facilities, which you can enjoy at no extra cost to your current membership. This includes unlimited access to the gym, pools, and group workout classes.

How do I change my location on the Places Leisure app to access Hinckley Leisure Centre?
It’s quick and easy to update your home centre in the Places Leisure app. From Monday 1 December, when you log in, there will be a button to switch to Hinckley Leisure Centre. You’ll only need to do this once, then your home centre will be updated for future use.
Is there a charge for car parking at Hinckley Leisure Centre?
Yes, there is a 60p charge for 3 hours for car parking for Customers with a parking permit. There are two car parks where this is valid – Hinckley Leisure Centre car park and Jaspers car park.
I've been to the Leisure Centre gym and there isn't enough equipment. Are there any plans to transfer the equipment upstairs in the Places Gym to Hinckley Leisure Centre?
We are currently completing an inventory to establish what equipment may be able to be transferred across to Hinckley Leisure Centre. In addition to this, we are currently in discussions with Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council about a number of different development options for Hinckley Leisure Centre. More details will be shared once decisions have been finalised.
