What is my biological age?
Everything you need to know about BioAge
We all know that staying active, eating healthily, and living well makes a huge difference to our overall health.
This is where knowing your biological age, or ‘BioAge’, can come in handy. Think of it as an all-round fitness indicator which shows off where your current health and fitness levels are currently at.
Seeing the positive impact of exercise on your overall wellbeing can really level up your wellbeing, and that’s exactly what your BioAge results are designed to show.

Why your BioAge matters
Your BioAge is designed to give you a clear picture of your overall wellbeing that can be compared to your physical age. Many see it as a motivating tool that helps them set goals, track progress, and celebrate the positive, healthy changes they make on the way.
Your BioAge gives a holistic rundown of your strength, cardio, metabolism, and flexibility levels against average values for your age and gender, with things like weight and height being considered too.
It’s possible that your physical age and BioAge are the same, but depending on your current health and fitness levels, it could also be the case that your BioAge is younger or older than you are.

How to calculate your BioAge
You can easily have your BioAge calculated with EGYM’s Fitness Hub, a piece of equipment that you’ll find in many of our centres.* Using the Fitness Hub, we’ll take measurements across a range of metrics to calculate your BioAge.
It’s a swift process! The Fitness Hub uses an integrated 3D camera and Tanita smart scales to calculate body composition (your body’s proportions of fat, muscle, bone, and water), combined with guided movements tests (like a squat or stretch) to test flexibility, strength, balance, and posture. To make sure your BioAge is as accurate as possible, we recommend that all these test areas are completed.
We know the word ‘BioAge’ and the Fitness Hub might sound a little intimidating, but don’t worry - we’re here to guide you every step of the way! A member of our friendly fitness team will help you during the assessment, guiding you through the movements and being on hand to answer any questions that spring to mind.
Once you’re familiar with your BioAge, you can use the EGYM Fitness Hub and our Places Fitness app to keep track of any changes to it!

How to reduce your BioAge
Depending on your lifestyle and fitness routine, reducing your BioAge may help your overall health and wellbeing.
As well as providing your BioAge, the EGYM Fitness Hub will break your data down into different categories. This way, it’s easy to spot the areas where you’re really smashing it, as well as where you could improve.
As an example, let’s use somebody who is 45 years old. They find out they have a BioAge of a 50-year-old and their data shows they have the strength of a 60-year-old. In this case, the person could incorporate a strength routine into their fitness plan to improve their strength score. As they progress with this plan, it will help to bring down their overall BioAge.
