UK Coaching Week - Alana Smallbone

Meet our coaches!

Alana Smallbone

Fitness Instructor

Alana is one of our Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers. She started her own weight loss journey, having personal training with Fitness Manager Iain.

“My results were an over 4 stone loss and this inspired me to pursue a career in fitness and help others achieve their goals and change their lives for the better. I made the move at site from sales to fitness and now, I have a strong client base and am currently a Senior Personal Trainer.”

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

Seeing positive change in the people I train, not just physically but mentally. Helping people improve their health and wellbeing, alongside growing in confidence and knowledge is just fantastic.

What was your proudest coaching moment?

I volunteer locally at a dementia day centre, where I deliver a weekly workout session to a wonderful and unique group of people, for who dementia can vary from mild to advanced. Seeing my group each week, working out with them, and making small positive weekly improvements is amazing, I feel so proud each week that I can work with my group and make a positive impact.

What other fitness activities have you been involved in?
We have done two recent charity events and managed to raise over £500 for Breast Cancer Awareness by rowing 100,000 metres in 6 hours and 10 minutes.  And in March 22, we cycled (in the gym on group cycle bikes) the distance from Haslemere to Lands' End in Cornwall, raising over £700 for Shooting Star children's hospice.

I think it's fair to say that Alana is part of a team of Places Leisure instructors that are truly inspirational!
