Re-opening update

Update on leisure centres in Winchester

Following a Winchester City Council Cabinet meeting that took place on 22 July 2020, it has been decided that, subject to a 10 day standstill period, River Park Leisure Centre and Meadowside Leisure Centre will remain closed until 1 September 2020, when they will re-open under the management of Everyone Active.

We have really enjoyed our partnership with Winchester City Council over the past 28 years. Our mission has always been to encourage the community to be physically active and we are certain you will continue to do so in the future. We would also like to thank our staff for their hard work and commitment over the years who have made a significant contribution to the health and well-being of the community and we want to reassure our customers that you will see the same familiar faces when the centres re-open.

We have produced these handy FAQs to answer some of your initial questions and we will be adding more information as required over the coming weeks.

The guidance on this page is for the centres below:

Memberships

I am a Premium, Gym Only or Swim Only member at the centre, and I pay monthly by Direct Debit, what happens?

If you pay by Direct Debit for your membership, payments have now been automatically frozen. We are aware that as you pay in advance there maybe days that that we owe you due to the lockdown period – we will automatically adjust the payment that will be taken on 1st September 2020 when the centres re-open to ensure you still receive this. This will be the last Direct Debit from Places Leisure and these payments will transfer to Everyone Active.

We are aware that some customers monthly payments were deducted after our centres were closed on March 20th. Unfortunately, the direct debit process begins before payments leave an account and Places Leisure was unable to stop these.  Please be assured that an adjustment will be made on September 1st that reflects the time you were unable to use the centre.

Should you wish to cancel your membership please contact Harlands, our membership team. Their dedicated Places Leisure team are available at placesleisure@harlandsgroup.co.uk or call 01444 221052

How is my first month's Direct Debit calculated?

Calculations are based on 30-day months and that the centres closed on 20th March.

If your last payment was in March 2020:

  • If a Direct Debit was collected between and including 1st March and 20th March, you will receive 10 days credit on August's payment.
  • If a Direct Debit was collected between the 21st and 25th March and not refunded, this full payment will be carried over to August.
  • If a Direct Debit was collected between the 21st and 25th March and this payment was refunded, your payment will be collected on the appropriate day in August.
  • Any promotional 3-month joiners in March will be credited the remaining days from opening.
  • Any days paid for in the March payment that would have been for April will be credited against the August payment.

From the date your centre re-opens:

  • All payments from the 1st of that month will be collected once we have a confirmed opening date for your centre.
  • Your payment may be collected on a different date in the first month of re-opening and you will be notified of this. It will return your normal collection date for subsequent months.
  • Your first month's Direct Debit will be credited with the number of days between your standard Direct Debit date and centre opening date.
  • Credits over and above the standard payment in your first month will be credited against the second month's Direct Debit.

I have pre-paid for an annual membership, what happens?

If you have paid up-front for an annual or fixed term membership, your membership end date will be extended for the length of the closure ensuring you receive your full membership term and will continue when the centres re-open.

What about my child's swimming, gymnastics or trampolining lessons?

As a result of the recent Government guidance on closing the centres, your payment has already been automatically frozen, and where we owe you lesson(s) we will adjust future payments.  If you take no further action, your lessons and payments will transfer. We are aware that because of the lockdown, a number of you will be owed some lessons that we were unable to deliver when the centres were closed. Your 1st September 2020 payment will be processed by us and will be reduced in lieu of any lessons owed.   This will be the last Direct Debit from Places Leisure and the payments will transfer to Everyone Active.

If you have paid in advance for your course, your end date will be extended ensuring you receive your full number of sessions.

From 1st September, Everyone Active will be in contact with you with news on their lessons and plans. Everyone Active have set up a page that you may wish to visit in the lead up to them managing the sites. Find out more

Should you wish to cancel lessons please contact Harlands, our membership team. Their dedicated Places Leisure team are available at placesleisure@harlandsgroup.co.uk or call 01444 221052

I’m an ‘Into:Fitness’ member at the centre, what happens?

Your access to the centre remains unchanged when it reopens, and any unused time transfers across.  Please be aware that the Into: range of products is unique to Places Leisure, so the bespoke nature of the sessions and support may not continue when the centre re-opens.

Pre-booked activities

If you have an outstanding pre-booked activity as a result of the lockdown or the extended closure to 1st September 2020, we will refund the value of these sessions to you. Please email our teams to arrange a refund.
