John's story:
I only began running seriously later in my life and joined my local running club, Wellingborough & District Athletics Club, a few years ago -close to my 40th birthday.
I am now 45 years old and managed to secure a place at the 2022 London Marathon with a Good For Age place. Balancing the roles of a husband, father to 3 daughters and a full-time role as a Head Teacher in a local school, I am hoping to prove that middle-age is no barrier to becoming fitter, faster, and achieving success as a competitive runner.
Running has also significantly supported my own well-being and I am a keen advocate for running for pleasure, whatever the speed and distance.
I have recently qualified to represent England Masters in my age category (M45) and I hope to complete this year's London Marathon in a personal best time of under 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Being a member of my local gym has been invaluable in managing injury, building core strength, and providing a great running environment throughout my training.
