Maltby Triathlon back for 2019

Maltby Triathlon back for 2019

Back by popular demand, the second Maltby Triathlon is returning to Maltby Leisure Centre on Sunday 12th May 2019.

The route and format has been specially designed to attract seasoned triathletes, newcomers to the growing sport and local young people alike for a day of sport.

Places for People - a social enterprise company which is one of the UK's largest property and leisure management specialists - have teamed up with HUUB Events to organise the event.

HUUB Events will be drawing on their wide experience of running various triathlon, running and cycling events across the UK - including the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon in Derby.

The Maltby Triathlon will incorporate three different formats.

The Sprint distance is the ultimate challenge - consisting of a 400m indoor pool swim (16 lengths), a 24km undulating bike ride on country lanes around Stainton and Braithwell and a 5km run around the locality.

The Super Sprint event is half the distance - 200m/12km/2.5km – making it ideal for novice competitors.

Meanwhile, a free duathlon event will give children the opportunity to try out the sport. The run-bike-run event will take place on the football field beside the leisure centre, after both triathlons have finished. All children need is a bike, helmet and a pair of trainers.

Claire Duffin, Race Director at HUUB Events explained: “The 2017 Maltby Triathlon was a great success with fantastic support from People for Places and Maltby Academy. We had an aim of introducing the sport to the local community and they responded in force, coming out onto the streets to cheer on the triathletes, giving them encouragement along the route and they really added to the atmosphere of the event.

“Local clubs got involved in participating and marshalling and the positive feedback we received from everyone involved meant that it would be a definite on our events calendar this year. The three different formats make it an ideal event for everyone – whatever their age or experience – and I would encourage anyone who hasn’t tried out the sport to give this one a go”.

Paul Harpham from People for Places Leisure added: “We are passionate about creating active places for people to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle and are delighted to be working with HUUB Events once again to bring the triathlon back to Maltby.

“Once again we will be putting on special training sessions in our local leisure centres in the run up to the event to support people with their training. And we are also offering current gym members discounted entry into the event; anyone interested in taking up the offer must speak to their local centre reception to get more information.”
